Turkey's market regulator chief resigns amid fund crisis
Mahmut Sutcu, the head of Turkey’s market regulator, stepped down on Monday. His resignation comes during the fallout from a fund crisis that has upended the country's financial markets, creating significant instability. According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, the official reason Mr. Sutcu cited for his departure was “health issues.”
Mr. Sutcu's tenure was notably brief; he had been in the role only since May. His leadership of the regulatory body therefore concludes after just a few months, during the very period of market turmoil his agency is tasked with supervising. The departure from such a key post during an ongoing crisis presents a challenge for Turkey's financial oversight, combining a leadership change with unresolved market disruption.
