Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan and Indonesia forge 'Badr' arms pact
Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan, and Indonesia have signed a pact to jointly produce military equipment and cooperate on defence research. The memorandum of understanding was signed in Doha on Wednesday by defence ministers and senior officials from the four nations, including Turkey's Yasar Guler and Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister, Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The agreement, dubbed the "Badr deal" by Turkey's defence ministry, is a reference to the Battle of Badr in 624, a foundational victory in early Islamic history. The ministry also noted that "Badr" means "full moon," suggesting the four nations complement one another. The pact aims to integrate each country's production capabilities to develop their defence industries and supply allied nations.
