South Korea: Crowds watch third rescue of stranded shark
A third rescue attempt is underway for a 3-metre female shark stranded in a canal in the south-eastern South Korean city of Busan. First spotted in the urban waterway last month, the animal has since drawn huge crowds of onlookers who have flocked to the canal's banks to watch the unfolding drama. Rescue teams are using nets in their latest effort to guide the shark back towards the open sea.
The shark, nicknamed Bukangi by locals, is believed to have been attracted to the canal by a combination of unusually warm water and an abundance of fish. The prolonged and public nature of the rescue efforts has turned the shark's plight into a local spectacle in the major port city, with each attempt closely monitored by residents.
