Death toll from Jordan church attack rises to nine
The death toll from an attack on a Greek Orthodox church in southern Jordan has now reached nine people. The figure was updated after two individuals who were critically wounded during the assault died from their injuries on Saturday, October 24th. Jordan's health minister, Ibrahim al-Bdour, confirmed the new total to the AFP news agency, noting one of the victims had been in a critical condition.
The initial incident occurred on October 23rd when gunmen stormed the church compound in the village of Hammoud, located within the Karak governorate. According to a statement from Jordanian authorities, the assailants opened fire directly on a funeral procession that was in progress inside the compound. The authorities have officially classified the deadly shooting as a 'terrorist attack' and an investigation is underway.
